Sixteen Malaysian firms have made it to Forbes’ latest annual Global 2000 ranking of the world’s biggest, most powerful and most valuable public companies.

Sixteen Malaysian firms have made it to Forbes’ latest annual Global 2000 ranking of the world’s biggest, most powerful and most valuable public companies.

Here is the list of top Malaysian companies who made the list. Their world rankings are in the parantheses:

1) Malayan Banking Bhd (ranked 371)

2) Tenaga Nasional (ranked 408)

3) CIMB Group (ranked 574)

4) Public Bank (ranked 578)

5) Sime Darby (ranked 709)

6) Axiata Group (ranked 932)

7) Genting (ranked 1122)

8) RHB Capital (ranked 1185)

9) Hong Leong Financial Group (ranked 1287)

10) MISC (ranked 1318)

11) AmBank Group (ranked 1331)

12) Petronas Chemicals (ranked 1339)

13) Maxis (ranked 1441)

14) Petronas Gas (ranked 1485)

15) IOI Group (ranked 1559)

16) YTL (ranked 1589)

Criteria for the ranking include sales, profits, assets and market value.

Sixty-eight companies from South-East Asia are in the Forbes list, with Singaporean firms accounting for 20.

The top five country breakdown is as follows: the United States (579 companies), China/Hong Kong (232), Japan (218), the United Kingdom (94) and South Korea (66).

In total, the Global 2000 companies, which come from 61 countries, account for US$39 trillion (RM140 trillion) in revenue, US$3 trillion (RM10.8 trillion) in profits, US$162 trillion (RM582 trillion) in assets and US$48 trillion (RM172.5 trillion) in market value in 2015. Total market value grew 9% year-on-year, the most among the four metrics.

SOPB Group has since then expanded its land bank to over 72,000 hectares, with 63,000 hectares planted with oil palm trees in Sarawak. Oil palm plantation and the production of crude palm oil and palm kernels will continue to remain as the sole core business of SOPB Group.

Ling Chiong Ho's Sarawak Oil Palms plantations and refineries supply most of his wealth. He also runs Shin Yang Shipping, which designs and builds ships and boasts a fleet of ships and barges that carry timber, cement, steel, iron ore and other commodities around Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
